From Aquarius into Pisces__
Pursuing Depths of Far-Vision toward the Unknown
THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY:
A TIME OF INCUBATION AND UNFATHOMABLE COMMUNION
February. Midwinter. Deep Winter. Germination time. Season for bottomless soul-searching in preparation for a transformed existence. Whatever is developing deep within is only a guess… a hope… a fear.
Aquarius. Zodiac sign of individual versus collective identity. Chaotic, cataclysmic change. Revolutionary aims and surrender to an indefinite future.
Expanding consciousness breaks through restrictive boundaries. Pursuing freedom leads into untested territories of metaphysical space.
February 1: Cross-Quarter Holy Day “IMBOLC” (This strange word is from Old Gaelic, meaning “in the belly,” suggesting a phase of germination__ the period just before a birth or a revelation __ a time to prepare for bringing something concealed into the open. (We Moon 2016, p.51, Miriam Dyak, Mother Tongue Ink, 2015)
February also has a folk-legend holiday called “Groundhog Day,” named for a creature who mystically crawls out of its undercover hideout, sees its shadow above ground, and retreats in fright for six more weeks of winter… Symbolic, perhaps, of our desire to escape the gathered worry and dread of winter… avoid the responsibilities of cold reality.
In this season our thoughts become shadowed within the sanctuary of winter’s chilly refuge. We retreat into our personal cocoons to hibernate and wait, in trepidation, for whatever is to come.
At the present period, here in the United States, we are immersed in a shadowy, chaotic, volatile, and alarmingly worrisome political campaign season. The outcome foretelling possible surrender of sanity to the total collapse of the nation’s accustomed standards; to an ultimate revolutionary modification in our country’s principles, boding either moral good or unscrupulous bad for the people.
The nation’s political process has become perplexingly convoluted__ riddled with deceits, shams, tricks, pretenses and confabulations designed to confuse all but the inner circles of power and privilege where they were originally hatched.
We ordinary folk quietly harbor our personal beliefs and hopes, fearing to air them to the wrath of rabid opposition. Folks cannot fathom their neighbor’s different ways of thinking. We fear for the sanity of the entire human race.
Yet, in the midst of February’s dark depths of unknowable far-vision comes Valentine’s Day. With Hearts, Flowers, Teddy Bears and Candy, our spirits are momentarily raised and our minds opened to the greater realization of Hope and Love.
Pisces, the last sign in the cycle of the zodiac, arrives on February 18th, bringing an even more confounding withdrawal from everyday reality into fantasy, dream, and denial.
This deep “water sign” represents the joining of opposites… we become immersed in deep truths that dissolve much that we have believed ourselves to know, and we swim in a stream of paradox where endings become new beginnings and deaths bring new births. We can learn to see with the eyes of our Child-self who knows that dreams are another level of reality and that wishes, given belief and vision, do come true.
Dear Reader: if you found this current rather dark minded missile a bit depressing, I apologize and suggest you click on the (Mystic Moments) tab at the top of the main Index page of my blog. Scroll down to “Aquarius” and “Pisces” in the list of my astrological “Seasons” essays__ monthly reflections on the meanings of each of the twelve signs of the Zodiac. Although I wrote them in 1990, they are still quite relevant today, in 2016. (And they are much more upbeat than what I have just posted today!)
